Jean A. Joyce, Beloved mother and grandmother Jean A. Joyce died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Holy Rosary Medical Center, at the age of 78. Jean was born on March 17, 1931, in The Dalles, Ore., to Virginia and Afton McIntyre. She attended schools in Wasco and graduated from Morrow, Ore. In 1949, Jean went to the University of Portland College of Nursing and graduated in 1953 with a bachelor of science degree and as a registered nurse, and later earned her master’s degree at Eastern Oregon State College in La Grande, Ore. She worked at Holy Rosary Medical Center until she married John M. Joyce on Jan. 22, 1955. She started teaching in the nursing program at Treasure Valley Community College in 1967 until she retired in 1993. Jean loved to do baking and crafting and share that with others. She also loved the time she spent volunteering at the hospital and on the board of Malheur Council of Aging. Jean had a huge soft spot for dogs, especially dachshunds. Jean is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Chris Joyce, of New Plymouth; daughter and son-in law, Anne and David Taylor, of Libby, Mont.; granddaughters, Kirsten and Elissa Taylor, of Libby, Mont.; grandsons, John and Joey Joyce, of New Plymouth. A Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Private interment will be at a later date.
