Life Legacy

Kenneth Aloysius Schwartz, 80, of Boise , formerly of Council, passed away Monday January 25, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 29 at 10:00 am at St. Paul ’s Catholic Church 1515 8th St. South , Nampa , ID. Internment will follow at Midvale Cemetery , Midvale, ID.

Kenneth was born June 20, 1929, the eleventh child born to Francis Xavier Schwartz and Marguerite Hartert Schwartz of Greencreek , Idaho . He attended schools in Cottonwood and Ferdinand , Idaho . Kenneth joined the U. S. Navy in 1950, where he served a four year tour on the USS Iowa during the Korean War.

Kenneth met Sarah Spadea from Brockton , MA in 1953 while he was home on leave in Ferdinand where she was visiting her sister Aurora Curran. Although others were vying for Sarah’s attention, she found no one else as interesting as Kenneth. They were married October 2, 1954 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Brockton , MA .

Kenneth and Sarah moved to Moscow , Idaho in 1955 where Kenneth attended the University of Idaho where he worked on an electrical engineering degree. While in Moscow , Ken and Sarah began their family, welcoming three healthy boys. Kenneth was wooed away from Moscow by the Lockheed Corporation which offered him a job working at their plant in California . In 1960, Ken moved his family to Sunnyvale , CA where he began his short career with Lockheed. While living in CA, they added three daughters to their family.

Ken’s heart, always in Idaho , won out when he realized that he did not want to raise his six children in CA. He found a job in Council, Idaho , working as an agent for the Soil Conservation Service, and in 1966 he and Sarah moved into a rambling old house on Highway 95 outside of town. This house became their home for over forty years. His career changed during these years from SCS agent to owner of a post and pole business, then on to an Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service agent until he retired in 1987. Kenneth then began volunteering at the Council Forest Service Visitor’s Center where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the Council Valley and its surrounding area.

Ken and Sarah moved to the Boise Valley in 2007.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Marguerite, brothers Herman, Vince, Larry, Frank, Alfonse and Tony as well as his sisters Elsie, Marie and Felice. He is survived by his wife of fifty five years, Sarah, his sister Genevieve Griewing, his children Jerome (Linda) Schwartz, Frank (Mary) Schwartz, Kenneth Michael (Desiree) Schwartz, Anne Marie (Greg) Martes, Karla (David)Reynolds and Suzanne (Rod) Linja as well as twenty two grandchildren.
